Palm tree protection

The palm tree, which is the state tree of the Tamil Nadu government and one of the markers of Tamil life, is declining. To revive it, the following schemes will be implemented. The palm tree will be declared a protected tree. Furthermore, a Tamil Nadu Palm Tree Development Corporation will be set up and ₹200 crore allocated to it. Using that fund, processing of palm sap (padaneer), production of palm jaggery, and export of value-added palm products will be planned. During seasons when there is no palm produce, workers engaged in palm-related occupations will be given a livelihood support amount of ₹3,000 per month.
